What is Dyspepsia ?
The word dyspepsia describes a recurrent discomfort or pain that may occur in or around the stomach area. Discomfort may include early sense of fullness with eating, bloating, indigestion, feeling of excessive fullness following a meal, nausea, or vomiting.
What causes Dyspepsia ?
Some contributing factors include
- Improper ability of the stomach to propel food into the rest of the gastrointestinal tract
- Increased perception of pain and discomfort within the stomach
Symptoms
There are many digestive disorders and factors that produce symptoms similar to dyspepsia. These include
- Peptic Ulcer Disease

- Reactions to certain medications
How Dyspepsia is Diagnosed ?
The diagnosis is made based on the complete analysis of the patient's medical history, a physical exam, and the results of appropriate testing. The tests may include:

- Ultrasound
- Upper Endoscopy (investigation of the stomach
- with a fiberoptic tube)
