Morning Sickness
What is Morning Sicknes ?
Morning sickness (a misnomer, because the nausea and vomiting can occur at any time of the day or night) is practically a rite of passage for pregnancy. Indeed, studies indicate that 50 percent to 90 percent of all pregnant women have at least some morning sickness for part or all of their pregnancy.
Causes of Mornig Sickness ?
Doctors believe morning sickness is caused by an increase in the hormones that accompany pregnancy. Human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, plays a role.
Women who are having twins or triplets have much higher levels of HCG than do women carrying a single baby, and not surprisingly they often have excessive nausea and vomiting.
How long will morning sickness last?
Morning sickness is very common early in a pregnancy. It tends to go away later in pregnancy, and it's almost always gone by the second trimester (the fourth month). But there isn't a set time for it to stop because each woman is different, and each pregnancy is different.
