Pimples
What is Pimples ?
A small papule or pustule. Pimples are sebaceous glands (oil glands) that are infected with bacteria, become inflamed, and fill with pus. Pimples are due to overactivity of the sebaceous glands located at the base of the hair follicles, especially on the face, back, chest, and shoulders. They are a visible and palpable hallmark of acne.
Causes of Pimples
Although everyone is different, acne is usually caused by the build up of oil and dead skin in a pore. This build up of oil and dead skin is caused because of:
- Natural hormones. These are particularly active in your teens.
- Plugged skin. Lots of skin cells can close the oil glands or pores, creating blackheads or whiteheads, (as mentioned earlier).
- Bacteria. Bacteria can easily infect oil glands and pores and grow very quickly.
- Family background. If you have acne, your kids are more likely to have it too
Symptoms of Pimples
Acne appears as rash on the face or neck. This rash can become a red and painful pustule.
Presence of white heads and black heads can also lead to inflammation. Inflammation can be formed around the skin lesions
Diagnosis of Pimples
Diagnosis is based on the appearance of the skin.
Normally no tests are required.
