Antiperspirants And Deodorants
Why to use Antiperspirants and Deoadorants?
As temperatures soar, so do our worries about body odor and wetness. After all, staying fresh and odor-free has become an American obsession. Our bodies are naturally programmed to perspire, but what comes naturally isn’t always desirable, especially if it causes body odor or leaves yellow underarm stains on your shirts. Antiperspirants and deodorants can help curb the occurrence of both problems, but how exactly do they work and which one is right for you? “The main difference: antiperspirants stop or dry up perspiration, while deodorants – or any combination of them – help get rid of the odor by masking the smell with a fragrance.
Antiperspirant, “the sweat blocker”: Antiperspirants are the choice for controlling wetness, since the most common active ingredients, aluminum compounds, block the pores to inhibit the release of sweat and helps absorb odor-causing moisture. “Most over the counter antiperspirants contain aluminum zirconium, however, for people who feel that they suffer from excessive perspiration on a regular basis, or, occasionally due to stress, occupation.
Deodarants are useful
Deodorant, “the odor absorber”:
Both deodorants and antiperspirants fight odor, but they work very differently on the body. Deodorants simply inhibit the growth of the bacteria that cause odor, while antiperspirants actually stop perspiration by blocking the pores. The dissimilarity in the two products' actions is reflected in how the Food and Drug Administration classifies them: Deodorants are considered cosmetics because they work only on the skin's surface; antiperspirants are treated as over-the-counter drugs because they change how the body functions. Each product has its drawbacks, thanks to their ingredients--synthetic and natural chemicals and minerals that may pose health threats, especially to chemically sensitive users.
Deodorants cover up odor through a variety of fragrances and masking substances. Some also contain an antibacterial agent, such as triclosan, to prevent the release of odor by fighting bacteria growth that results from perspiration. Deodorants are best for stopping that sweaty smell, but won’t stop the perspiration. Deodorant, alone, is best for those people who do not have a problem with excessive perspiration, yet want to feel fresh and odor free. “Deodorants can provide an adequate level of day-to-day protection for someone with little to mild perspiration, and can be used in conjunction with Certain Dri in those individuals who want both an effective antiperspirant and a deodorant.
