Bruising
Introduction
Have you ever noticed blue marks due to some internal reasons? Well this is called bruising. It happens due to the internal damage of veins. The blood spills out in the tissues surrounding the blood capillaries and gives its impact on upper skin as blue marks. This causes pain and swelling in that portion of the body. Usually physical hurting is main cause of this. Usually these symptoms are frequently noticed in children who play games outside. Sudden bump or blow can result in the appearance of the bluish purple marks on the skin.
Alternative Names
Echymosis is another name for bruising.
Causes (Paragraph)
Usually an external bump or injury on the upper skin results in bruising. The injury does not rupture or cut the skin. The blood spills in the tissue area and is not allowed to leave the body as there is no way for it, so it clots there in form of blue patches. The area where this blood is spilt is known as Purpura. Little injuries while playing or jumping can cause this. Sometimes it’s because of allergic reactions and sometimes an immune disorder. Whereas viral infections, blood coagulation and violent and continuous coughing or vomiting, any act including sudden jerk or bruise can be a cause of bruising. Medical treatment such as radiation or chemotherapy can also cause bruising. The clotting of blood after a little while can be noticed as black or blue patches on skin. This indicates the blood clotting. This is usually found in small kids who play outdoor games which include running, jumping etc. During this time you may notice many bruises but they may disappear with out even noticing. Some children have it as their birth mark it never disappears. At worse it can be a symptom of some other disease which may be leukemia. Aging can also be a cause of it because with age veins become more sensitive and skin less rigid to protect your superficial blood vessels as a result bruises can be easily seen if any.
Risk Factor
People of older ages can frequently get bruises although the bump may not be as hard as it appears.
Children with lots of activity can get bruises frequently in everyday life.
Symptoms & Signs
The symptoms can easily be seen on the superficial part of the skin at any part of the body. Gum bleeding is also included in its symptoms. If it is near or at the belly then the belly may become harder than before specially the area where you have the bruises. These bruises can sometimes indicate other problems within a person’s body such as liver problems, cancers, hemophilia, infections or vitamin deficiency. Swollen or tender joints can also be noticed. Bruising with out any reason should be taken into notice. If your child has bruises without any reason, please take notice of the child’s activities. The color of the bruises may become lighter with the passage of time and then disappear gradually but if it didn’t than you better consult your physician.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis can be made by the symptoms stated above. Some test can be helpful in determining the bruises condition and all the relevant matters. However it is better to check your CBC and blood platelets count as to avoid any major problem in future. Bone marrow biopsy can also help in diagnosis.
