ACNE
Acne also called pimples starts with blockage of the skin glands with a thick secretion called sebum. This forms a whitehead. If it gets exposed to the air, then sebum turns dark, forming a blackhead. Acne blemishes are more likely to be found on the face and neck, but can appear on other areas like the back, chest, and upper arms. Acne may also be related to high testosterone levels in both males and females.
Acne occurs in most people during the teens. Sometimes it clears up by the time we are in our 20’s, but it may persist for years. In some women, it gets worse before menses.
You can help prevent pimples from forming by keeping your face clean and keeping your hands away from your face. Gently wash the acne’s affected area two to three times a day, using any good soap or cleanser.
If your blemishes are deep, painful, and swollen, or you have more than 10 blemishes on one side of your face, you should see a doctor for treatment of your acne.
People past age 25 who have acne may also need a doctor's care for acne. If you must use make-up, use only water based cosmetics and always remove them before sleep.
