It is one of the herbs which traditionally has been used to flavour Chartreuse liqueur. Hyssop is an evergreen shrub about 60 cm high. The stem is erect, and branched; the leaves are dark green and the flowers, dark-blue with very long styles. The plant’s oils possess anti-infection, blood purifying and blood pressure regulating properties. Uses: The leaves can be added to salads or to rabbit or lamb stew. Traditionally Hyssop is added to cranberries, stewed peaches and apricots. An infusion of Hyssop makes a good cough remedy and hot Hyssop tea is good for catarrh and colds on the chest. Side Effects: Over dosage can lead to dizziness, chest constriction and central nervous system disorders. |
