Hypertriglyceridemia

Introduction
This disease is actually a popular form of Hyperlipidemia, which is an increase in one or more of the lipids including phospholipids, triglycerides and cholesterol. Hypertriglyceridemia accounts for an increase in the concentration of Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) in the plasma. So if you are suffering from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease then, be aware it shouldn’t hit you. This disorder is a threat to you and everyone like you that is with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. There is a very strong relationship between increased triglycerides and hypertriglyceridemia. It is even said to be the independent reason behind coronary artery disease (CAD). Now let’s be more straight about it. This disease has two branches:

Primary Hyprrlipoproteinemia
This is further classified as hypertriglyceridemia and borderline hypertriglyceridemia. Anyone with a triglyceride level hanging somewhere between 500 and 1,500mg/dl is suffering from the earlier, whereas the second one appears to side with those with a triglyceride level between 250/500 mg/dl.

Secondary Hyperlipoproteinemia
Please try to avoid obesity, excessive alcohol, diabetes, hypothyroidism, stress, as much as you can. Since these are the secondary factors that work as catalyst in aggravating Hypertriglyceridemia.

Alternative Names
There are no alterative names given to this disease.

Causes
As already mentioned hypertriglyceridemia means an increase in the concentration of VLDL. The reason why the concentration of triglyceride increases in VLDL is not only unknown to me and you, even the doctors could not find a satisfactory answer to this. But yes there certainly is an explanation. It is believed that the largest portion of fats in the adipose tissue and in the blood is composed of lipid molecules or triglycerides, which are derived from dietary fats. So right after we consume our food, triglyceride appears in the blood as a chief component of chylomicrons. In all hale and hearty individuals these triglycerides are stripped of fatty acids as they pass through the various tissues. The chylomicron residue is taken up by the liver so that the triglycerides are disappeared from the blood within a few hours. Any triglycerides that have been left over and the addition triglycerides produced by the liver and then re-packed in a new wrapping paper named very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) then once again sent to the liver through blood. If this VLDL contains too many a triglycerides then the state is that of Hypertriglyceridemia. There are some other factors attributed as a cause of this disease, these are
  • Obesity
  • Alcohol
  • High levels of sugar.
  • Smoking
