Hemorrhoids
Introduction
Hemorrhoids are basically the enlarged veins in anus. The veins are either enlarged or they become dilated around the opening of the anus. The hemorrhoids can be external or internal. The hemorrhoids above the dentate lining are not usually painful because the lining above the dentate is not as sensitive as below the dentate. This condition can’t be felt or seen because it lies inside the anus. This is internal hemorrhoid. The external hemorrhoid can be painful and they can be seen and felt around the anus. External hemorrhoid is also known as skin tags. Its occurrence is 2 out of 1000 people. When blood in hemorrhoids clot, it causes pain and irritates the skin around it. This condition is termed as thrombosed external hemorrhoids and it is very painful. A person can suffer from internal and external hemorrhoids at the same time.
Alternative Names
They are also known as piles or rectal lumps.
Causes
The causes of hemorrhoids can be habits and medical history. Prolong sittings can cause hemorrhoids. Women may suffer from hemorrhoids especially after a child’s birth but it can be cured automatically by the body itself but in some cases this condition may require a doctor’s examination. Constipation, diarrhea or stressing the walls of anus can cause it too. Eating habits can also cause hemorrhoids. People who take less amount of fiber in their diet can also become a victim of it. Infection in anus can also be a cause of it. People who lift heavy objects in their daily life can also suffer from hemorrhoids. Sometimes hereditary characteristics are responsible for producing this condition in a person. Sometimes long term chronic liver and heart problems can also lead to hemorrhoids. Constant coughing and sneezing can also cause it. People who have a diet less in fiber usually suffer from hemorrhoids because the low fiber diet leads to constipation and it causes strains on the walls of anus, especially during the bowel movements.
