Historical Use:
The Huastec Mayans of northern Mexico boiled the fresh bark in water to treat asthma, diarrhea, dysentery, fevers, gastrointestinal pain and as an aid in childbirth. Brazilian tribes drank a tea from the bark as a diaphoretic for bronchitis, cough, liver problems and pneumonia.
