Introduction
Pedra Hume CAA is a shrub with small green leaves and large orange reddish flowers that grows in the drier regions of the Amazon and in other parts of Brazil one of more then 150 species that grow in South America and the West Indies. Pedra hume caa has been used by tribes in the rainforest for the treatment of diabetes, diarrhea, and dysentery. Tribes in the northwest amazon considered the leaves to be astringent and use it for persistent diarrhea having a place in Brazilian traditional medicine for numerous years.

  • Traditional Remedy
    One-half cup to 1 cup of a standard leaf infusion 2–3 times daily with meals. One to 2 g of leaf powder in tablets or capsules with meals can be substituted if desired. See Herbal Preparation Methods instructions if necessary.

    Drug Interactions
    May potentiate antidiabetic medications and insulin drugs. May potentiate antihypertensive medications.
