Thrush

Introduction
Thrush is basically a kind of yeast infection in vagina and also in the mouth cavity. This yeast infection takes place in mucous membrane of the mouth cavity. It happens when the yeast in the mouth cavity begins to divide more rapidly than usual resulting in candidiasis in mouth. Causes

The main causing factor of thrush is candida albican, a kind of yeast which is commonly found in human body. The condition of thrush is faced when the body is not able to control the growth of yeast. It may even occur all over the body but the mouth cavity and vagina are the most common sites. Usually it does not cause any pain but if not cured it may result to be very painful. Sometimes emotional stress and tension can be a cause of it. Frequent use of anti biotics can also lead to yeast infection or thrush in any part of body. Symptoms & Signs
For oral thrush
  • Sore mouth and throat.
  • Redness can also be seen in mouth.
  • The membrane of the mouth seems to discharge white fluid.
  • Curd like white patches can be seen inside the mouth.
  • If these white patches are scratched, bleeding starts.
For vaginal thrush:
  • White discharge.
  • Painful intercourse.
  • Irritation and burning sensation which can be very intense at occasions.


Diagnosis
It can not be diagnosed only with the help of symptoms; it is must to consult a doctor. The causes and symptoms of candidiasis include a variety of signs which can indicate its presence but they are not restricted to candidiasis only. If thrush is not cured it can spread throughout the blood stream which may be very harmful. Microscopic examination of the cotton which was used for wiping the infected area can be helpful in diagnosing.

Prevention
  • Diabetic patients should try to control the sugar level in blood to avoid any kind of thrush.
  • Women should take care of these symptoms especially during pregnancy and also otherwise.
  • Anti biotics should not be used unnecessarily.
  • Women who are prone to vaginal thrush should use cotton under wears.
  • Bottle feeding babies should be taken great care and their bottles should be sterilized regularly.
  • Hygiene is highly considered.
