Introduction
Worm Wood is a shrubby, odorous plant growing to a height of 60-120cm.It possesses numerous flower heads and a branched, leafy stem. Worm Wood plant can be found in Europe and in the northeast and north central regions of the United States.Worm Wood is used for all problems within the digestive system, as well as liver and bladder ailments. It has been used to remove worms from the internal digestive system. It promotes menstruation and will help with menstrual cramps.
Historical Use
Worm Wood has been used for bronchial ailments and before the introduction of quinine (Cinchona bark); it was highly regarded as a remedy for intermittent fevers. In Chinese medicine, Worm Wood is prescribed as an antipyretic to reduce fevers but not to kill parasites. The liqueur absinthe made from oils of Worm Wood contains a high concentration of thujone, which is a convulsing poison and narcotic when consumed in large amounts. Absinthe is therefore banned in, virtually every country of the world.

Over dosage can lead to vomiting, stomach and intestinal cramps, headache, dizziness and disturbances of the central nervous system. Continuous use is not advisable. The use of volatile oils and spirituous extracts from the drug for the manufacture of alcoholic drinks is forbidden in many countries because of possible health risks.
