Blue green Algae
What are Blue green Algae?
Cyanobacteria is the scientific name for blue-green algae, or "pond scum."Bluegreen algae is a single celled organism that produces its own food through photosynthesis. The first recognized species were blue-green in colour, which is how the algae got their name. Species identified since range in colour from olive-green to red.
Wild species grow in lakes and waterways, consuming whatever nutrients are in the water. Some species of cyanobacteria are toxic just like mushrooms and some land plants. Most kinds of microcystis, anabaena and aphanizomenon flos-aquae are toxic. Wild blue-green algae has not been subject to spirulina's long safety testing.
