Bovine cartilage

What is Bovine cartilage?
A. It’s full name is Bovine tracheal cartilage (BTC) and it is made from the trachea of selected beef cattle. Bovine cartilage is the predecessor and `big brother` to Shark cartilage being in use since the early fifties and has been effectively used to treat many conditions including cancers, tumours and arthritis ever since. It is considered to be a non-toxic material has been scientifically demonstrated to produce antimitotic, antiangiogenic and anti-inflammatory activities.

What problems can be treated with Bovine Cartilage?
Inflammatory Joint Disease - BTC has been tested in inflammatory diseases, such as arthritis, with very promising results. Cartilage is a natural highly bioavailable source of both chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine sulfate which have been used successfully in the treatment of inflammatory joint disease in animals and of rheumatoid arthritis in humans. Cancer - The use of bovine cartilage powder to treat cancer evolved from the success of BTC in treating psoriasis. Like psoriasis, cancer is characterized by the overproliferation of cells. Research indicates that BTC acts as a biological response modifier, regulating the activity of important components of the immune system. Substantial research has been conducted demonstrating the anti-angiogenic effect of bovine cartilage. Angiogenesis is the process upon which the growth of solid tumors depends. Benchmark studies on antiangiogenesis and its impact on the development of tumors has resulted in a growing field of research that is regarded by scholars and the pharmaceutical industry as holding considerable promise for the treatment of cancer.

How does BTC compare to Shark cartilage?
While the experts still have varied views about the differences between two obviously effective supplements, there are several points of difference that are clear… Dosage - Liquid bovine cartilage requires much lower dosages than Shark cartilage powder (roughly one third less) which equates to lower cost and easier dosage compliance. Taste - Shark cartilage powder can be very fishy and odorous especially in low quality brands. While liquid BTC can vary in flavour and in some brands does not taste any better than shark, there are now high quality, low dosage BTC products that taste much better than shark cartilage at roughly a third of the cost. Ask for a liquid bovine cartilage with citrus bioflavanoid flavoring, which tastes great.

Which is the Best BTC For My Condition?
Choose a high-potency liquid BTC with complete and clear labeling manufactured in Australia to therapeutic standards. Look for a high level of both chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate with reasonable dosage indications. Any product indicating over 15ml per day is probably a low-potency product and therefore a more expensive course of treatment. Your health food store or natural practitioner can recommend a quality therapeutic product.
