Linseed Oil
Description of Linseed Oil:
Linseed Oil is uniquely cold pressed from organically grown flaxseed, by the exclusive Omegaflo process which protects the product from both light and air. The result is the most natural, purest source of cold pressed flaxseed oil available.
Flaxseed is just what it sounds like - the seed of the flax plant. The typical use of flaxseed is as a source of the essential fatty acids linolenic acid (LN) and linoleic acid (LA). Flaxseed oil is about 57% LN (an omega-3) and about 17% LA (an omega-6). LN can be converted into eicosapentaonic acid (EPA) and decosahexanoic acid (DHA) - fatty acids which are precursors to anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic prostaglandins. Another beneficial ingredient found in abundance in flax seed is lignan - a phytochemical with potential for cancer prevention.
What does Linseed Oil do?
Linseed Oil supplies fresh, cold pressed linseed (flaxseed) oil, a source of linoleic acid, an omega-3 polyunsaturate; and linoleic acid, an essential omega-6 polyunsaturate.
Linseed (flaxseed) Oil, Gelatin, Glycerin, Carob Flavor, Water. Contains Corn, Yeast, Wheat, Soy and Dairy Products and are formulated without the use of preservatives, artificial flavors or colors.
Linseed oil includes a natural dark, carob colorant, derived from the carob bean, to protect the contents from light.
While fish oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity, an anti-inflammatory effect of flaxseed oil has not been demonstrated conclusively. Some doctors have argued that, because ALA can be converted to EPA and DHA (the fatty acids found in fish oil), flaxseed oil should be useful for the same conditions as fish oil. However, the conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA is limited, so that argument may turn out to be incorrect. For example, while numerous studies have shown that fish oils are beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis, flaxseed oil failed to work for this condition in the only known trial.
