Pregnenolone
What is Pregnenolone?
Pregnenolone is a hormone precursor that the body normally manufactures using cholesterol as the primary raw material. In the body, pregnenolone can be converted into a multitude of other hormones, including DHEA, estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone. As with the steroid-hormone precursor DHEA, pregnenolone levels decline with age. Pregnenolone is one of the most important hormones because it has a balancing effect.
Benefits of Pregnenolone:
Pregnenolone shows many of the benefits of cortisol, it reduces allergic reactions, lessens arthritis inflammation and produces a relaxing and mildly euphoric "stress buffer effect", without any of the negative side effects of cortisol. Pregnenolone improves mood, and has a mild anti-depressant effect, and also improves energy levels by protecting our energy producing mitochondria from toxins, which would otherwise damage the mitochondria.
Source of Pregnenolone?
The compound diosgenin is extracted from wild yam andundergoes a proprietary synthetic process to develop the pregnenolone compound. The human body cannotmetabolize wild yam into pregnenolone. This process canonly take place in a laboratory. Pure EncapsulationsPregnenolone also contains hypoallergenic plant fiber(pine cellulose).
Other General Information:
Pregnenolone is an important hormone from which most other hormones are derived, which has pervasive effect in the body. Pregnenolone is available as a dietary supplement without a doctor's prescription, or it may be prescribed by a physician at higher dosages or in blends with controlled hormones. Pregnenolone is an important hormone for the brain. Pregnenolone is found in higher concentrations in the brain than in any other organ in the body and it has been the subject of many scientific studies which suggest that it enhances both memory and learning ability. Several studies have been performed on mice, which give strong indication that pregnenolone is possibly the most potent memory enhancer studied to date. Evidence suggests that pregnenolone improves memory function by increasing acetylcholine output for short periods. Pregnenolone is a precursor to some key hormones, such as progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, the cortisones, and DHEA. Pregnenolone production peaks at about age thirty and declines to approximately 5% of the original level by age seventy. Pregnenolone has been used successfully as a replacement hormone to alleviate a number of age-related ailments.
Side Effects or Precautions of Pregnenolone:
When taken at higher levels, irritability, over-stimulation andfatigue have been observed. Due to its effects on the GABAreceptor in the central nervous system, supplementationwith pregnenolone could cause problems in people with ahistory of seizures. This product is not recommended foruse by pregnant or lactating women.
