Lycopene
What is Lycopene ?
Lycopene ia a carotenoid found in tomato products, prevents oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and reduces the risk of developing atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.Lycopene, the carotenoid pigment that gives tomatoes their red color, has been the focus of recent scientific research. Lycopene is one of the four main carotenoids normally found in human blood and tissue. Studies show that lycopene has exceptional antioxidant activity against singlet-oxygen free radicals. Lycopene's antioxidant help prevent prostate cancer and some other forms of cancer, heart disease, and other serious diseases. In the body, lycopene is deposited in the liver, lungs, prostate gland, colon and skin. Its concentration in body tissues tends to be higher than all other carotenoids. Research has documented Lycopene's ability to reduce lipid peroxidation, suggesting a decreased risk of Cardiovascular Disease.
Lycopene, a carotene carotenoid, is the most effective quencher of singlet oxygen free radicals yet discovered.
