Introduction
Quercetin belongs to the family of bioflavonoids- a class of water soluble plant coloring agent and a type of nutrient.
It is a quasi –vitamin, which needs a lot of research work to be done before its any positive use could be brought to the surface. This does not appear to be every essential to human body and its growth and development.
Its supplements are available both in the form of pill and tablet. The main problem that lies with quercetin is that it is not usually well absorbed by the body but a special form called quercetin chalcone, is considered to be better absorbed.

- Though it is found to be harmless in most of the ways but still safe dosages for children, pregnant women, and breast-feeding mothers are needed to be established.
- People with serious liver and kidney disease should better avoid using quercetin, until a safe dosage has been devised for them.
Side Effects or Interactions
Bioflavonoids are found to help and protect vitamin C, being a family member quercetin is often taken along with Vitamin C.
Quercetin like all other bioflavonoid is non toxic. In the earlier times quercetin was considered to be the cause of cancer but most of the recent studies nullify this myth and in fact consider quercetin to be an element in protection from cancer.
Certain test tube studies reveal that quercetin is a source of chromosomal mutation in some bacteria. Though it is still not confirmed in the case of humans, researchers are worried about its affect on an infant, child born of the parents who have been supplemented with quercetin at the time of conception or while pregnant.
