Now days many of us hear of breast cancer. It is spreading quickly throughout the world. Breast cancer is a complicated disease in women and its frequency is increasing day by day. Cancer is basically malignant growth of tissues or a group of cells which are produced unnecessarily. It is found in 1 out of 8 women in a life time. Causes
As of other cancers, there has been no perfect cause known of the breast cancer. The causes of the breast cancer can be the same as of other cancers, like the genetic factors. If a lady’s mother had suffered from breast cancer that lady might suffer from breast cancer and her daughter can also be affected. There can be re-occurrence of the breast cancer. Presence of other type of cancers in the body can be responsible for developing cancer in breasts also. Early start of menstruation and late menopause can be a contributing factor. Ionizing radiations are also believed to cause cancer along with some other chemicals present in the air and water can also be a cause of cancer in breasts. Other factors such as stress and poor diet can also lead to breast cancer. Alcohol and obesity are also susceptible of causing breast cancer. Women after the age of 60 can develop breast cancer any time without any family history. The mentioned susceptible factors are just an estimate not the exact causes.

- Women above 50 years of age are at risk of developing cancer.
- Almost every woman is susceptible to breast cancer.
- Male also suffer from it but it is rare.
- People who have the background of breast cancer in their family are more prone to it.
- Women who use birth control pills are more prone to it.
- People who are often exposed to radiations especially in childhood are more prone to it.
Symptoms & Signs
These are some of the common symptoms of breast cancer
- Pain in breast.
- Discharge is noticed from the breast.
- Breast lumps can be found on breast.
- Change in the color of the skin of areola or nipple.
- The discharge can be yellow or green in color
- Highlighted veins on breast are observed.
- Redness.
- Itching of nipples.
- Swelling can be a symptom too.
- Enlargement of breast asymmetrically.
- Thickening of the skin of breast or nipples.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of the breast cancer can be done by the help of ultrasound, breast examination. The symptoms are not enough to make the diagnosis. A complete medical check up is necessary. Biopsy test can be used to make the diagnosis or other tests like x-ray mammography, needle biopsy of breast, cytology test or chemical testing can also be used in this regard. Early diagnosis can help to prevent the worse affects of the breast cancer.
Prevention
Some changes in diet and lifestyle may reduce the incidence of cancer generally.
Treatment
The treatment of the breast cancer depends on the condition of the cancer and the area it has affected. The surgery is the normal way of treating breast cancer. The cancerous cells are removed in the surgery. Reoccurrence is possible.
